Gavin Freeman Flips Commitment: Oklahoma State WR Chooses Baylor Over Tennessee (2026)

Major shakeups in college football are always exciting, and this one's a doozy! Oklahoma State wide receiver Gavin Freeman has made a surprising move, flipping his commitment from Tennessee to Baylor, according to reports from On3.

Freeman, a key player in the transfer portal, was ranked No. 793 overall (No. 119 among wide receivers) in On3's Transfer Portal Industry Rating. He originally committed to Tennessee on January 10th.

Last season, Freeman was the leading receiver for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who had a tough season with a record of 1-11. He made a significant impact, catching 53 passes for 481 yards and 4 touchdowns. Over his collegiate career, which includes two seasons at Oklahoma and two at Oklahoma State, Freeman has a total of 81 career receptions for 667 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Before college, Freeman was a highly-regarded prospect. He was a four-star recruit and ranked No. 1,571 overall in the 2022 class according to the Rivals Industry Rating. He was also the No. 141 cornerback in his class and the No. 27 overall player from Oklahoma, coming from Heritage Hall High School.

But here's where it gets interesting... Baylor's head coach, Dave Aranda, is staying put. The university announced on November 21st that Aranda will return for the 2026 season, ending speculation about his future amid some program changes. This upcoming season will be his seventh at Baylor, making him the second-longest-tenured Baylor head coach in the last 33 seasons (Art Briles coached for eight seasons from 2008-2015).

The decision was made public in a detailed statement from Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone. She emphasized stability, alignment with the university's mission, and long-term strategic goals as reasons for keeping Aranda.

President Livingstone wrote, "After careful evaluation and consideration, we have decided to retain Coach Dave Aranda as the leader of our football program.” She added, “We recognize this decision will generate strong opinions. Let me be clear: Baylor expects excellence, accountability and competitiveness at the highest level. We are not complacent, and we are not settling for mediocrity.”

“Our strength as a university has always come from our ability to stand together — students, alumni, faculty and staff, and fans — united by faith and shared purpose. While opinions may differ, our commitment to supporting our student-athletes and representing Baylor with integrity must remain unwavering. Let us rally behind our team, encourage one another and demonstrate the unity that makes Baylor special.”
