Hold onto your hats, dinosaur enthusiasts! A monumental discovery has been made, quite literally, in a US car park. Last year, the National Park Service unearthed an incredible 3,000 pounds of dinosaur fossils and rock at Dinosaur National Monument in Utah. This find isn't just significant; it's the first fossil discovered at this location in over a century!
But here's where it gets exciting: experts believe these fossils belong to a long-necked dinosaur, potentially a Diplodocus. These giants roamed the area during the Late Jurassic period, a whopping 150 million years ago. Imagine the stories those bones could tell!
The excavation was a collaborative effort, involving construction crews, paleontologists, and volunteers. They worked tirelessly between mid-September and mid-October to carefully remove the precious material. Now, the fossils are undergoing meticulous cleaning and in-depth study at the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum.
And this is the part most people miss: some of these ancient treasures are already on display! You can see them at the museum and the monument’s Quarry Exhibit Hall. Isn't it amazing to think that a car park could be hiding such a significant piece of history? What do you think about this incredible discovery? Do you have any favorite dinosaur facts or theories?
